Joel Tidey is a contemporary painter who is based in Livingston, New Jersey. His interests range from figurative to industrial architecture and everything in between. Moreover, Joel has stated that "it's not about the subject matter that is important, rather it's the undercurrent that can convey a deeper layer of meaning and philosophical truth."
After graduating from The Art Institute of Philadelphia in 1992 he began working as an Illustrator for several years. However his interest began to shift toward the Fine Arts and in particular painting in oil. His work can be found in private and permanent collections in the tri state area and abroad. In 2011 he was invited to be a member of The Salmagundi Club in New York City and received several Awards including The Martin Hannon Memorial Award and The Salmagundi's En Plein Air Painting Award. Along the way Joel also found a passion for teaching and instructs various classes on Figure Drawing, Artistic Anatomy and Painting.
Joel finds endless inspiration in creating spaces within the pectoral figuration. He says his paintings are merely a diary entry and what is left on the canvas is open to the interpretation of the viewer.
