Artist Statement
- Originally my interest and training was predominately focused on traditional figurative painting. Over the years my work has emerged into abstraction through an impulse toward exploration and invention. My paintings are not generally preconceived through traditional processes. Rather they typically arise from placing and displacing, relating and rupturing gestural configurations that veer towards the unknown. They will find themselves going through many alterations and collapse to become something else. Moreover they are guided by intuitive transmission of felt states. I am interested in the undercurrent or the essence of things and my goal in the so called finish is to be surprised. For the viewer what is left on the surface yields a collaboration between the artist and the painted surface.
